League Policy on Weather Related Game Cancellations:
All games at all levels are cancelled only AT the playing field AT game time and are only cancelled due to safety reasons (lightning, standing water on the playing surface etc.). Games CANNOT be cancelled in advance. This is spring in Idaho and the weather can change in 5 minutes. Games are played in wind, rain, fog, snow, hail, sleet etc. If the game CAN be played it SHOULD be played.
Part of the reason for this policy is logistics. Putting together a schedule for multiple divisions using limited fields is a frustrating and difficult experience to begin with, then when games can’t be played when they are supposed to be that puts everything else in a bind and finding a time/place/situation to replicate that becomes almost impossible. We have enough games that end up having to be replayed due to safety issues (lightning etc.) that our remaining flexibility is pretty much nonexistent. Additionally we have to work under some pretty stringent time constraints as far as how long the season is allowed to be, how many baseball activities are allowed per division, per week. There are VERY specific guidelines that we have to adhere to due to our Little League Charter, Constitution, Bylaws, Safety Plan, Insurance requirements etc.
Additionally, with our focus on player safety and pitcher protection, re-schedules force managers into situations that are unfair for pitching availability/pitch count reasons.
Therefore, if you choose to cancel a game, you need to understand that you are CANCELING that game. There is likely NO OPTION to reschedule it or make it up.
